What is a "Smilestone"?

From Smilestones Therapy
A "smilestone" is a term used to represent the significant achievements, progress, or milestones reached by children in their therapy journey at Smilestones Therapy. It encompasses the idea that even small victories, marked by smiles and a sense of accomplishment, are meaningful and worth celebrating. A smilestone can be any notable breakthrough, developmental milestone, or personal achievement that a child attains through their dedication, hard work, and the support of the therapy team at Smilestones Therapy. Some parents even say its a "F**k you! to traditional milestones".
I originally heard someone say the term "smilestone" years ago from someone who heard it on a podcast called "Two Peas in a Podcast". They use it in a much broader term, but here we use it for Therapy specific goals. A "Milestone" for some seems hard, negative, challenging. Smilestone was created to bring light and celebration to achievements in the disability community. Its a beautiful way of celebrating our hard work, and recognizing that we may not be reaching a traditional milestone, but something even greater.
